Eyecenter: first SMILE treatment for farsightedness in Belgium

A remarkable milestone was recently reached at Eyecenter: Dr. De Wilde and his team performed the very first SMILE laser treatment for farsightedness. Until now, this technique was mainly used to treat nearsightedness, but thanks to recent technological developments, it is now also possible for people who have difficulty seeing up close.

SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) is a modern laser treatment in which the eye’s refractive power is corrected through a small opening in the cornea. Unlike the traditional LASIK method, no large incision or flap is needed, allowing for faster healing.

The fact that this technique can now also be used for farsightedness is an important step forward in eye care. With this scoop, Dr. De Wilde not only demonstrates impressive technical expertise but also highlights the ongoing innovation within our network.
