Last January, the team from Oogartsen Regio Limburg, part of the Signifeye Group, traveled to Basankusu in the Congo for a special medical mission. For two weeks, they worked to provide people with access to eye care in a place where such care is anything but a given.
After a long journey via Kinshasa, the team was warmly welcomed by the local community. At Hôpital Saint-Joseph, they set up a temporary eye clinic, as the need was great: patients came from far away, some after hours of walking through the rainforest or days of traveling by river.
During the mission, the team conducted hundreds of consultations, performed cataract surgeries (including on children), and fitted and distributed eyeglasses. For many patients, this meant not only better vision but also regained independence in daily life.
At Signifeye, we are exceptionally proud of this effort. This mission perfectly illustrates what we stand for as a group: committed, accessible eye care—even beyond our national borders.
